Last Flowers in Bloom

The temperatures haven’t reached freezing yet in our part of Ontario, but leaves are beginning to change colour - and our final flowers are in bloom...

Japanese anemones...

So pretty!

Some years, our white springtime anemones bloom for a second time in fall, but there’s no sign of them yet.

Also the red sedum flowers - that don’t curl up and die once the frost and snow arrive. Instead they toughen up and even stick out of snowbanks, reminding me that there are flowers lying dormant under the snow!

I find that thought encouraging... That’s why I hate to cut them back until spring.
