My son and I walked past the college snow mound a few days ago. All the winter snow covering the parking lots was bulldozed into this one giant heap!
It actually didn't look any smaller than the last time we were here... But then, we did get a lot of snow!
The west side of the pile had partially disappeared.
But it was the high part that caught our attention. How did they bulldoze it up so high? They must have a very large snowblower to do that!
Snow is finally melting here in Ottawa ...
I recently took my first spring walk in the college grounds.
It was quite walkable... I was glad to be back...
I was astounded, however, by the size of the gigantic snow mound (mountain?) that blocked a path I like to take.
The accumulation of snow cleared from the college parking lots, it seems larger than piles I remember from previous years.
I wonder how long it will take to melt and disappear!
One memorable day of blowing snow created an unusual problem for drivers: it "glued" snow to traffic lights and road signs, so that they couldn't be read.
The problems were still there the following day...
It took three days for the snow on the signs above to melt!

Luckily some of the hidden information was marked on the road. Amazing that we didn't have more accidents!
Snow arrived early this past winter....
Now there's a lot of it - packed down. Some of it has already melted.
Yesterday I took a few pictures.
The forecast is for rain and warmer weather. How long will it take for all this to disappear, I'm curious to know.
Yes, we have more snow!
Terry hasn't been out a lot during the past two weeks. First he injured his wrists, shovelling - and was in a lot of pain. Then he picked up a cold...
So I wasn't sure how we would handle this significant snowfall. But he decided to go out and do "just a bit" of shovelling.
Fortunately we have kind neighbours! Ken and his ride-on snowblower came over and did most of the heavy lifting!
Maybe we should get Terry one of those ride-on machines for Christmas! (Maybe I could even learn how to use it myself... It could be fun!)
Yesterday, we woke up to find our world covered in SPRING SNOW!
Not what I was hoping for...
The birds didn't seem to mind it!
Terry and Earl cleared our respective driveways...
I plan to stay indoors all day.
We should be okay as long as the snow doesn’t get so heavy that the power lines come down!
(Hopefully it will all melt soon...)
Yesterday, we woke up to see A LOT of snow on the ground... and on the backyard hedge!
I didn't expect that!!
(The previous day, there was almost no snow at all!)
Tomorrow (Monday) we may have freezing rain - accordng to the weather network ...
But I prefer to take a "wait and see" attitude.
If we do stay indoors all day, I'll have lots to do. And I'll take consolation in the fact that - at this time of year - the wintry weather won't last that long... (That's my hope, anyway.)
This is Canada - and we can get freezing rain or snow any time of the year!
Yesterday we awoke to snow on the ground - LOTS of it!
We didn't know when the city snow plows would make it down our little dead end street - so our son, who had appointments to keep - shovelled a path around the soccer dome - to make life easier for himself by taking the bus. (When a bus didn't come, he had to take Uber!)
Later he sent pictures from a pedestrian bridge at the college. The main road had been cleared...
But not everyone was able to get onto it!
A few days ago, Terry and I swung by this massive snow mountain in a shopping centre nearby.
We had noticed it earlier this winter and wondered how large it was now. But it was hard to tell how much it had grown. It looked wider, if not taller. I guess snow blowers can only shoot snow up so high.
I remember, a few years ago, reading that large snow mounds like this - with pipes running through them - could be used to cool buildings in summer. I haven't heard much about that lately.
It would be tempting for kids to want to use it for sledding - but it's close to buildings and lamp standards, so that wouldn't work. Piles of snow can also be unstable - not the safest place to climb. One wouldn't want it to collapse and trap someone inside.
There's a lot of snow on the ground... But yesterday, as I checked out the forecast for the coming week, I was definitely encouraged.
On most days the temperature is expected to go above freezing. Here is is in Celsius (above)...
And Fahrenheit...
What I'm really waiting for - is for snow on the roads and sidewalks to disappear so that I can feel safe walking outdoors again.
Two weeks ago we had a big snowstorm...
Now another one has dumped more snow on the city.
It's starting to pile up!
Terry always says he'll shovel the snow bit by bit - since he's getting older...
But once he starts, he finds it hard to quit till it's all done!
(I hope - at least - he's having fun!)
But as we approached this one, Terry and I were both astounded...
How did they ever build it up that high - higher than the light poles!? There's no way a snowplow could push it up that high.
I'd guess a snow plow brought the snow over to one side of the parking lot and a snow blower blew it up that high, Terry said.
We'll have to make a point of driving over here after a snowstorm - just to see how they do it!
