Campbellton, New Brunswick

Let's head home a different way, I suggested when the time had come to leave Prince Edward Island.


So we headed north on a coastal road along the Acadian shore.

Having heard of the trials and tribulations of the Acadians, I wanted to visit their part of Canada.

I became aware that there was an Acadian flag.

We drove all day, spending the night in Campbellton, a New Brunswick city across the river from Quebec, within sight of the bridge.

Judging from statues in the city park, it appeared to be serious fishing country!

Fredericton's River Pathway

In Fredericton, New Brunswick, Terry and I discovered a river beautiful path that was being well-used the Sunday afternoon we arrived.

Cyclists, skateboarders and walkers like us were making use of it.

It was about two and a half kilometers downtown from our hotel - which was next to the path...

Walking along, we passed historic buildings, like this one - seen here from the path behind it...

Later we passed it on the road in front.

 Magnificent!








 

As we approached downtown Fredericton, there were several bridge options. A lot of walkers turned to cross the bridge that spanned the St. John River.

We took a footbridge that led downtown, where we hunted for a restaurant...

(The poles visible from the footbridge mark how high water levels peaked during different flood years... a reminder that all rivers do flood!

We again ate in an outdoor patio...

(I mention this because the following morning, the weather was a lot cooler!)

Later we returned along city streets.

There are so many lovely old buildings in downtown Fredericton.

Walking was a lovely way to see the city.

New Brunswick's Beautiful Views and Highways

Both times we've visited New Brunswick in recent years, we've marveled at the views...

... - and excellent highways.

The traffic has been light, allowing us time to appreciate the scenery around us.

A beautiful province to visit!

The World's Longest Covered Bridge

Traveling from Quebec City towards Prince Edward Island, we drove through New Brunswick.

At one point, I noticed a sign to The World's Longest Covered Bridge...

Really?! This is something I had to see!

So we followed the signs towards Hartland, a small town on the St. John River.

There it was - a relic of the days when horse-drawn wagons were used for travel. Horses didn't like to go over water, so - to solve the problem of nervous horses - they created covered bridges.

Nearby, we found a spin-off industry - a potato chip factory that produced "Covered Bridge Chips." (Here is their "World's Smallest Covered Bridge"!

 They come in various flavors - even lobster!

Terry had seen them in stores at home - but here - where they were made, he just had to buy some!
