Hunter's Moon

We noticed the large full moon as we were driving home at 6:45 PM.

In October, the full moon is called the Hunter's Moon because October is traditionally hunting season.

It was especially bright in the cloudless night sky. It will be a cool night for hunting!

More Snow

What are the roads like out there? I asked my son after a recent snowfall.

So he sent me pictures as he walked to the bus stop at 6 am. The first, comparing his quiet side street to the busier cross street.

The busier cross street...

Standing at the bus stop...

So this is what it's like heading to work at 6 am now that winter is here!

I used to leave the house at 7... Can't say I miss it!

Equinox

I’m puzzled.

In school I remember learning that March 21 was the spring equinox - the day when we have 12 hours of daylight, equal daylight and dark. I thought that, on that day, it would be the same in both Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

But tracking hours of daylight in our part of Canada, I’ve discovered that we actually had our spring equinox on March 16 this year - yesterday, according to my weather app...

Or are hours of daylight calculated from dawn to dusk? In that case, wouldn’t our daylight hours be even longer?! Equinox, where we live, would have been a few days ago...?!
