Sunflower Surprise

I often blame squirrels when things go awry in my garden... when bulbs are dug up or tulip flowers eaten.

But my neighbour, Mary, recently showed me that they may be HELPERS as well. This year squirrels planted sunflower seeds in her garden, among her flowers... In July they bloomed.

(In our garden, squirrels plant trees!)

But the squirrels didn’t eat the sunflower seeds ... 

Did they leave them for the birds to eat?

Or did this goldfinch simply get to them first?!
