Shortly after COVID-19 changed our lives in March,Terry and I began taking weekly day trips to various parks and small towns in eastern Ontario.
There is something therapeutic about a change of scene...
Normally in summer we travel farther afield. With two of our children living in southern Ontario, we usually make frequent weekend visits to Toronto and Guelph while the weather is nice, to visit them. But not this year...
Our last visit was in December 2019 - at Christmas. Then we rushed home on Christmas Day to avoid encountering a snow storm!
For the past six months, day trips have refreshed us...
Recently we returned to Almonte (a picturesque town near Ottawa)... We came here several times during the spring... But this time, we encountered a lot of other visitors there... Like us, they were enjoying a "stay-cation"...
With health concerns that make us extra-wary of contact with people, Terry and I are still in "stay-away-from-people" mode...
Maybe it's time to pause our day trips (at least, the ones to popular tourist destinations) until mid-September...
But it is good news for local businesses, to see visitors out and about again.
