Merrickville's Canal Fest

Today is the final day of Merrickville's Canal Fest.

The canal is always fun to watch in action - as boats go up or down through the locks.

Built in the 1800s, the Rideau Canal is an amazing engineering feat, considering the machines they used at that time.

It is now considered a world heritage site.

Sometime I would like to take a boat ride through the whole Rideau Canal, from Ottawa to Kingston.

On Saturday, entertainment was provided by "Kitchen Party", a group of musician-singers from Quebec who play Celtic music.

Here is a sample of their music.

It was a fun time!

There was something for everyone - even llamas for the children to see... and llama yarn to purchase.

The weather was perfect.

We didn't go on the free canoe ride this year. We did take it a few years ago, and it was a memorable experience, quietly gliding through the water, watching the birds and other wild life in the water.

We wandered around the craft fair...

... where I bought a jar of locally produced honey (with lemon added) before heading home.
