A Walk on Wellington Street

Ottawa has grown over years... slowly absorbing towns and villages around it. Which is why some street names are confusing... They suddenly change... For example, Montreal Road (in the east end of the city) turns into Rideau Street, which - a mile or so down the road becomes Wellington Street which turns into Richmond Road... (I may have left some names out!)

One of my favorite shopping areas is Richmond Road (Or is it still Wellington Street at this point?!)...

I was recently there - one snow-free Sunday in December - enjoying the ambiance of a neighborhood that reminded me of a small town. It has small shops...

... especially its bakeries. (There seem to be a lot!)

Lots of coffee and tea shops... And a furniture store or two...

(My neighborhood - in contrast - has lots of big box stores. )

So walking on this street - so reminiscent of a small town - is a delightful change!
