Today Americans celebrate the Fourth of July. A few days ago, Canadians marked Canada Day, on the first.
I remember several occasions when Terry and I celebrated both: One year we watched Canada Day fireworks at Toronto’s harbour front, while visiting our daughter. Then we drove north for an Agawa Canyon train ride. A few days later, we watched the American Fourth of July fireworks across the border from Sault Ste. Marie.
Another memorable year, we watched Canada Day fireworks in Ottawa, then drove to Washington DC for the burial of one of our American relatives in Arlington Military Cemetery. Together with family from Texas we stood in the bridge at Georgetown watching fireworks in nearby downtown Washington.
This past Canada Day, Ottawa had no fireworks, in part to avoid large crowds gathering during the pandemic.
Instead, Terry and I spent part of the day walking in Andrew Haydon Park.
There were a lot of geese around - the goslings we watched a few weeks ago look like adults now.
At one point we did enjoy watching another kind of “bird” - Canada’s Snowbirds flew overhead...
Over the city and park - several times.
All in all, a beautiful, peaceful day!
