Muskrats in Andrew Haydon Park

There is one slow-moving stream in Ottawa’s Andrew Haydon Park where Terry and I have stopped to watch turtles swimming, on one occasion - and frogs croaking and jumping, on another.

I wonder if there are any turtles around, I commented to Terry as we approached  the edge of the stream…

No turtles or frogs this time, but… “What’s that?!”  Terry asked, pointing…

That looks like a rat. I didn’t know rats swam…

Maybe that’s a MUSKRAT!

Eventually it crawled into a hole under the reeds.

When we got home, I googled “muskrats”… Now I’m certain that’s what we saw!
