Approaching Half Way!!

I'm approaching the half-way point on my 3670 km virtual walk from Chicago to Los Angeles, along Route 66...

Having heard so much about Route 66, I really wanted to try this challenge - but, due to its length, I feared not being able to complete it in 2 years. Now, 10 months after starting, I hope I may actually finish ahead of schedule! My average daily walk is about 5 km a day.

I'm currently approaching Amarillo, Texas, which is about halfway across the continent.

The satellite image of this particular part of America shows lots of circles in fields. Interesting!

A fun landmark I recently passed was the "leaning tower of Texas" - a town water tank that went awry shortly after it was put up.

It survived demolition only because a businessman saw potential in using this quirky structure for advertising.

I also passed a small Texas town - population 60?! - where travellers can leave their mark (with spray paint) on several partly-buried VW beetles!

Having come this far on mostly flat farmland, I expect the next part of my hike to be rocky, mountainous terrain.
