Having heard so much about Route 66, I really wanted to try this challenge - but, due to its length, I feared not being able to complete it in 2 years. Now, 10 months after starting, I hope I may actually finish ahead of schedule! My average daily walk is about 5 km a day.
I'm currently approaching Amarillo, Texas, which is about halfway across the continent.
The satellite image of this particular part of America shows lots of circles in fields. Interesting!
A fun landmark I recently passed was the "leaning tower of Texas" - a town water tank that went awry shortly after it was put up.
It survived demolition only because a businessman saw potential in using this quirky structure for advertising.
Having come this far on mostly flat farmland, I expect the next part of my hike to be rocky, mountainous terrain.
