Trees NOT Dropping Leaves

Every year the weather is different - but I don't expect the rest of nature to change! One puzzling phenomenon Terry and I have noticed this year is that...

... though a lot of trees have dropped all their leaves (as one would expect) ...














... despite periods of strong wind, other trees (like those in the background above) are tenaciously hanging on to theirs!














Was it all the rain we got this summer? Does this mean that winter will be very late in coming?! Do the trees know something we don't?!!

I have no idea. But I'm hoping some tree scientist to write an article and fill us in.
