We purchased our first air conditioner quite a few years ago - when I still taught summer school and needed a good night's sleep before facing a classroom of students.
Habitually, we only turn it on when the temperature stays uncomfortably hot at night. Otherwise we open all the windows overnight to cool things down, then close them in the morning, keeping the house cool all day.
This summer, for the first time ever, we've used the AC non-stop for the past two months... For some unknown reason, Ottawa has often been the hot spot in Canada...
So it was nice to have cooler weather and be able to open the windows two days ago to air things out.
Don't know if this signals the beginning of fall - or if hot days and nights will be back again soon.
This summer has been unusually hot, not only in Ottawa, but all over Ontario.
The cats in the photos belong to my daughter, who lives in southern Ontario. She does not have air conditioning in her apartment, so her cats stayed close to windows whenever they were open...
The squirrels in the trees were an added attraction!
