Words of Wisdom

Last weekend was Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. In my online wanderings, I came across this thought which reminded me how much I have to be thankful for:

“Wealth consists not in having great possessions but in having few wants."

These words of wisdom come from a Greek philosopher named Epictetus, who lived approximately 2000 years ago. (And by "wants," he means "needs"! How dramatically the meaning of that word has changed?!)

A few more of his sayings:

“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has. ”

“Any person capable of angering you becomes your master..."

“Other people's views and troubles can be contagious. Don't sabotage yourself by unwittingly adopting negative, unproductive attitudes through your associations with others.”

And finally, “He who laughs at himself never runs out of things to laugh at.”

(Old wisdom - but still applicable after all these years!)
