But we rarely do that in Montreal, even though the city is on an island surrounded by water.
Recently, however, we were returning to downtown Montreal after visiting a friend in nearby Lachine.
There is a road along the St. Lawrence River that will get you downtown, she told us...
So we took it.
We passed parks ...
...drove under expressways...
At times we found ourselves beside the historic Lachine canal...
There was a bike path next to us along most of the route...
(Maybe someday I'll try it!)
Before long we found ourselves in downtown Montreal!
