One of my favorite parts of Pennsylvania is Lancaster County - Amish farm country.
I am always surprised to see Amish horses and buggies mingle with cars and trucks on the roads. The last time we were here, about 5 years ago, we took a tour of an Amish-style farm and house.
The experience was memorable - we learned a lot about the Amish way of life.
This time we returned - not to the farmhouse, but to a restaurant we remembered from our last visit, a country restaurant that serves generous portions of home-style Pennsylvania Dutch cooking on large farmhouse-style tables.
Guests eat family-style with strangers sitting at the same table. Meeting new people is part of the adventure!
Our first course was fresh bread served with whipped butter, apple butter, cottage cheese - and pickled "chow-chow" in the bowl on the left. Mashed potatoes with gravy and several types of meat followed.
No meal is complete without home-made ice cream and shoo-fly pie!
Later we wandered around the gift shop...
... where I bought apple butter to take home.
Coming here is always a memorable experience!
