One of the most popular places for Ottawa families to spend Canada Day used to be Andrew Hayden Park, near the Nepean Sailing Club, in Ottawa's West End.
The view is spectacular...
Carnival rides were set up for the children...
There were animals around - like these ducks in the water...
And this petting zoo.
People could bring picnic lunches and barbecues...
It was easier to keep track of your children here. (A crowd of hundreds of thousands gathers around Parliament Hill!)
But like downtown, many dressed in red and white, the colors of Canada's flag.
A year ago we dropped in to visit my 92-year-old mother, who lives nearby.
Even she was wearing red and white for Canada Day!
After many successful years, in 2012 Canada Day festivities were cancelled...
They were always so popular - I wonder why!
There are no events this year @ Andrew Hayden Park :(
ReplyDeleteYes. And I'm puzzled why. It's been successful for so many years. I only found out today.
ReplyDeleteGood thing you encouraged me to wear red and white! Xx
