Every few years Terry and I take a boat ride around Lake Ontario's Thousand Islands.
The cruise begins at Gananoque, not far from Kingston.
I always find the cruise so amazing.
These islands (close to 1100 of them) are partly in Canada and partly in the USA.
They are actually tips of mountains formed by glaciers during an ice age.
To be considered an island, it has to have two trees on it...
Some only have warning lights for boats... and birds...
Of course, some are quite large, with homes - and in some cases, villages - on them. Some of the houses are summer cottages, but others are permanent residences... (How do they get their groceries in winter when the ice freezes over?!)
Sailing around this beautiful area - where Lake Ontario becomes the St. Lawrence River - is one of my favorite summer activities!
Afterward we stopped for lunch...
And admired some speed boats parked near the water.
(I think we missed a big race.)
We really should come more often!
