A House Moves Away
Yesterday I watched as building movers prepared to uproot a house on our street and take it away...
It wasn't a simple job...
The roof even had to be cut off (I guess it was too high to pass under wires.)
Then the building was lifted onto wheels and pulled away from the foundation.
The two flatbeds sat waiting at the end of the street for the police escort...
Neighbors enjoyed watching the action...
I discovered that the movers had paid $1 for the building - which they plan to reassemble and sell for about $30,000 to someone who has land already.
Apparently the house is carried on a flatbed that works like a wheelbarrow - there are wheels close together in front and far apart in the back. That provides more flexibility on bumps along the way, protecting the house from damage... These guys are obviously experts...
Time to say good-bye...
I wonder when a new house will be built on this site...
(As my mother always says: Life is a constant change!)
