Dickinson Days
Last Saturday found us in the nearby village of Manotick, for their annual "Dickinson Days" celebration, named after the town founder.
The event centers around the old historic mill, which is still in operation.
It is still powered by water from the dam on the river next to it (a favorite spot for local fishermen).
We arrived for a community pancake breakfast...
The pancakes were delicious!
We watched some milling - here a machine is grinding "duck chow". Later we bought bread made from locally milled flour.
There were demonstrations by an old-time blacksmith...
And woodcarvers...
We wandered around the little market set up for the occasion...
I'm always looking for new craft ideas - like how to use denim I've salvaged from old blue jeans. (The bags displayed here are all made from re-purposed denim.)
I even managed to find a used book sale!
In spite of threatening clouds, it didn't rain - and we had a lovely day!
