Last week I took an unplanned trip to Alberta - for my Uncle Bill's funeral.
He was the fourth of my mother's seven brothers - the joker of the family - who lit up a room with his stories and laughter.
For much of his life he was a "heavy haul" trucker.
(My brother called him "the original ice road trucker.")
One of his proudest moments was transporting the giant Easter egg (pysanka) that Vegreville is famous for.
It was good to see my mother's extended family and some of their friends whom I hadn't seen in decades!
Such a joy to be there!
