Tweed in Spring

One of our favorite routes to Toronto is the "back road" that takes us through the village of Tweed.

Tweed is known for its painted fire hydrants.

Every time we go somewhere, we discover new things. This trip, I discovered that Tweed has a "pet food bank." I've never heard of that before, but it sounds like a good idea. Pets can be companions to people who live alone. Someone might have a pet - or want a pet - but not be able to afford to feed it.

(I wonder if they also subsidize vet bills!)

We often stop for lunch at a coffee shop we discovered a while back. It's good to get out of the car and walk around a bit to stretch our legs.

A block or two up the street I noticed a sign that said that said that this was "North America's smallest jail"...

(Not sure if the jail is still in use... It does look well-maintained.)

Next door is St. Andrew's Church.

We also stopped to look at the water level at the city park. It seemed  normal, in spite of all the rain we've been getting. In 2014 there was serious flooding. (I remember writing about that in a blog post.)

I enjoy exploring small towns. This one bustles in the summer months, when tourists come to stay in nearby cottages on the river.

We may pass through Tweed again this summer, on our way to or from Toronto.
