Blue scillas are blooming in my hosta bed, where hosta leaves are just beginning to emerge.
At the other side of the house, a few white hyacinth are in bloom near the hellebores...
There are a few yellow daffodils in the back flower bed, near the hedge, spots of bright color in a field of green...
Nearby purple periwinkle flowers (vinca minor) are blooming.
Periwinkle is viewed by some as an invasive species. I wonder who will win the turf war, the periwinkle or the tulip tarda. I hope the tulips win. Periwinkle may be invasive, but it does make a lovely ground, shiny green all summer long.
In the front yard, several tulips are in bloom.
Not sure how long they'll be around, as squirrels (or possibly rabbits) like to eat tulip flowers. Perhaps I should sprinkle them with pepper!
The most impressive flowers in our yard at the moment are the blooms on the weeping cherry tree. Bees have begun to hover around.
After seeing another flowering tree in Toronto a few weekends ago, I wonder: Should I plant more flowering trees or bushes? They add welcome bursts of color early in the spring.
