Our Canadian Flag

Our family owns a flag that flew on the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill.

Terry bought it at a charity auction.

It came in a lovely box...

With a letter of authentication.

This past Canada Day, our flag was in the knapsack of a young journalist on her way to the center of Canada, wherever that is! (Her article - found here - talks about her adventure!)

Around the same time, the Ottawa Citizen ran an article on how and where Canadian flags that fly on Parliament Hill are made. (They are made in Canada!)

There are a number of flagpoles on the Hill. The flag that flies on the Peace Tower is larger than most. On week days it is replaced daily with a new one - not sure why - and the old one is given away.

Want a free flag?! This government website tells you how to request one.

The problem: thousands of people are on the waiting list, so the current wait time is over 50 years!

If you don't want to wait that long, according to the Ottawa Citizen article, it can be purchased from the flag and banner company that manufactures them.
