I discovered that impressionism developed during the industrial revolution. Cameras had just been invented, so painters weren't needed to create exact likenesses of people.
Impressionist painters tried to quickly get an "impression" of a scene or a place.
One painting exhibited there took only 20 minutes to paint!
Now that's my kind of speed-painting!
