Strawberry season is here again! So of course I had to go to the nearest farmer's stand to get a few baskets.
It's always easier to buy them than prepare them!
Fortunately Terry and I share in the hulling and jam making (which is good since he eats most of the jam!)...
The recipe I use calls for mashed berries, sugar and lemon juice. For a few years, we made uncooked freezer jam. Then last year we tried something new: We made the recipe for regular cooked jam, but stored it in glass jars in the freezer.
Making two batches took us about two hours of cooperative kitchen labor. At the time we complained about having to stand over the stove stirring for 10 minutes - so hard on the back! But in the end we're happy we did it. Homemade jam made with fresh local berries definitely tastes better!
