Winter Walk in Point Gatineau

Earlier this week, Terry and I headed out for a walk along the river.

We drove over to Point Gatineau, in Quebec, where we knew the sidewalk would be cleared.

The most astonishing thing we saw was groups of ice fishermen tending their fishing holes...

One was pulling a passenger across the frozen water on a sled!

The weather had been warm...

Definitely not cold enough for thick ice to form. Hope nobody fell in!

A beautiful day for a walk!

New Milestone!

My granddaughter and I reached a new milestone recently.

She beat me "fair and square" on a board game we both enjoy playing.

(I suspect she could beat me in several card games - like UNO, as well. I can never remember the rules... or the goal of the game!)

Tree Trimming Time

A snowstorm earlier this winter weighed down boughs ... until they touched the electric power lines in our back yard. For Terry, it was too close for comfort.

Memories of ice storms past... when downed branches cut the power supply.

Don't want this to happen again!

So Terry arranged for the trees to be trimmed.

Watching the young tree-trimmer up in the branches reminded me that not everyone works in an office or store! Glad there are some who enjoy standing in a mechanical bucket... even in cold weather...  trimming branches!

Creating "Image"

I remember talking to a college student about how we create "images" of what kind of people we want to be perceived as. Someone may carry a large black Bible under their arm - or a thick best seller on the subway. Or perhaps put a ski rack on the roof of his or her car, even though they don't ski... to be perceived as athletic.

The student I was talking to burst out laughing. "That's what one of my friends does," he said. He has a ski rack but he doesn't ski!

I came across a similar projection of "image" in a home decorating article online.

The article was about incorporating book shelves into home decor - with books that express your interests. (No thoughts of reading the books, though!) . The trend is called "Bookshelf Wealth."

If this trend continues, I may find myself "in style"!

(I can already hear my daughter groaning...!)

Am I Missing Pieces?!

At this stage of the puzzle - when I have so few pieces left...

I start to wonder if I've lost some...

But - a few days later - I discover that they're all there!

Done!

New Look

Although it's winter, Terry decided to visit his barber. (He still looked like Santa, even after Christmas!)

It was a hard decision to make: The beard does keep him warm when cold winds blow!

He came home with a new look - and a cautionary tale... His longtime barber, a man in his 80's, fell (on the ice?) and doesn't plan to return until spring.

(FALLING ON ICE is a real risk for us seniors!)

So a new graduate from barbering school cut his hair and beard - and did a good job!

He looks like a new man!

Colourful Sky!

Now that winter is here, there isn't much colour outdoors...

So I often find myself looking up at the sky!

Mornings and evenings can be spectacular!

Midday skies are amazing too!

Beautiful - and ever changing!
