Terry recently called me over to one of our pine trees...
Look at the woodpecker!
There he was... oblivious to us watching him, pecking away.
Checking our "Field Guide to the Birds of North America," I'd guess that he is a Downy Woodpecker - because of his coloring and his size. He's small, and the Field Guide says that they are 17 cm (6 3/4 inches) tall.
I love living in a neighborhood where nature is literally at my doorstep!
We don't see a lot of woodpeckers... Not sure why.
But I may need a better camera if I want to seriously begin photographing moving birds!
