Brunch in Manotick

The Miller's Oven (a coffee shop run by senior citizen volunteers) was still open last weekend when we drove to Manotick for brunch. (There were fears it might shut down after a slow winter season.)

My son was thrilled to meet Julius, the cashier for the day. (Here they are, admiring an old 100-dollar bill!)

Julius brought my son's favorite menu item to the cafe, and it's named after him - French Toast a la Julius. Bread dipped in a mixture of egg and milk - then "breaded" with raw oatmeal before it is fried.

Afterwards we wandered through an outdoor art and bake sale being held in the park opposite the heritage grist mill...

Then into the mill, which was in full operation....

It runs on water power - and water was running!.

Talking to one of the workers, I discovered that they mill all summer long, selling all they produce.

Wandering around a beautiful village: What a relaxing way to spend a summer day!
