Lengthening Days

Days are lengthening...

This year, for the first time, I’m trying to get a handle on how much daylight we gain in spring - or lose in fall - every day. To do that, I’m tracking when sunrise and sunset occur daily here in Ottawa.

I’ve discovered that at the end of December, we were gaining one minute of daylight every two days, so only about half a minute a day.

Now, three weeks after the winter solstice - the shortest day - daylight is lengthening by about a minute each day.

Interestingly, our daylight, these days, is increasing only in the afternoon - which is just fine with me!
