Ottawa River Flooding - Spring 2019

The Ottawa River has been running high for several weeks now - and in some places there has been flooding.

There isn't much talk of it in the news anymore...

Though Terry heard that residents were told not to remove sandbags around homes.

More rain is scheduled for next week - so the river may rise again.

Curious to see what the current situation was, Terry and I drove around yesterday to see if it was still a problem...

First we drove along the Ontario River Parkway and saw that some sidewalks and parking areas were under water, but joggers were still out - running on the grass in places where the path was flooded.

Then we stopped at Rideau Falls Park to see how high the water was there, where the Rideau River and the Ottawa River met...

I don't recall ever seeing the water look yellow as it crashed over the rocks of the falls.

Further along, we drove to a look-out where we could see across the river to the Quebec side...

Homes there were again experiencing flooding, just as they had two years ago, in the spring of 2017.

It must be so discouraging to have this happen again and again!
