Winter Wisdom

I often stop and read church signs, hoping to find interesting, provocative comments. On a recent winter walk, I came across this one: "It is not from ourselves that we learn to be better than we are."

Interesting! Who is the author, W. Berry? Thanks to Google, I discover that Wendell Berry is a professor, farmer and writer. The New York Times called him the prophet of rural America.

A further Google search leads me to more of his quotes. My favorite?

“Don't own so much clutter that you will be relieved to see your house catch fire.” (I wonder if he had problems tossing things, too!)
