Visiting Rupert Jee

I don't stay up late enough to watch The Late Show with David Letterman, but Terry does. Sometimes, if he misses the program, he hunts for Dave's Top 10 List in the newspaper the following day...

So one of the places Terry wanted to visit in NYC was Hello Deli, a tiny deli around the corner from the Ed Sullivan Theater, where Dave Letterman's show is taped. (Dave regularly mentions the deli and its owner, Rupert Jee, on his program - so Dave's fans know the place well.)

It was almost lunchtime as we wandered by, so we decided to stop and order a few sandwiches... (which were delicious!)

Rupert even allowed us to take his picture with Terry - who at this point was absolutely beaming! Could the day be more perfect?!...

Well, actually, it could!

We next wandered over to the Ed Sullivan Theater to take a few pictures, when suddenly someone emerged from the door shouting: "Free Tickets to Dave Letterman's Late Night Show!"

Free tickets?!!

We stopped to inquire and discovered that they had room for a few more audience guests that day... So we signed up (wondering if we'd actually be called... it seemed so improbable)...

But we were!

We got our tickets...

Were coached on how to behave... (Clapping only - no loud whistles or cat calls...)

And a few hours later, while it was still afternoon (not late at night) we found ourselves sitting in the balcony watching that night's program being taped!

A quick, excited call home to tell our other son to record the program!

It was interesting to watch how the taping unfolds. (Dave takes off his jacket whenever he isn't on camera.)

Our souvenir from that exciting day... a quick glimpse of ourselves as the camera panned the audience!
