Trip to Minster Abbey

While in Canterbury, we took a short field trip to Minster Abbey, home to a small community of Benedictine nuns some 13 miles away.

It was a beautiful place!

Lovely old buildings and a well-kept garden.

A convent has an interest in art.

One of the nuns from the community was an artist.

Later we wandered around the garden, enjoying the flowers.

A week-long class in icon making was taking place in a studio on the abbey grounds.

That caught my eye!

I don't understand icons - but would still find the course interesting!

Later we had coffee...

... as we waited to attend their evening service, which was all sung in Latin!

Then home again to Canterbury - through fields and villages.

This was our only view of the English countryside...

... apart from the fields we saw beneath us when we arrived in Britain by plane.
