A Fascinating Transformation

On a recent trip to Toronto, we stayed at the Renaissance Marriott - a hotel that is literally attached to the Rogers Center (also known as the Sky Dome), Toronto's major sports venue.

It was surreal!

The bedroom window looked out onto the stadium field! It felt as if we were sleeping...

... inside a stadium...

I guess we were!

Watching the action outside our window was more interesting than watching TV! The field was a hub of activity all night long...

Our first night there, stadium workers worked transformed a baseball diamond into a football field... First the cleaners scrubbed the stands - here they are using a pressure hose to wash everything, after all the garbage was removed...

At the same time, another team was busily enlarging the Astro-turf on the field...

By morning, it had changed from this...

To this...

Our second night there, a crew of four painted lines and logos on the field, a task that took close to 12 hours...

While one man drew the lines...

Others prepared the stencils for the logos...

It was fascinating to watch them work...

(I got up several times in the night and opened the curtains to watch them...)

I was surprised how slow and painstaking it all was... (Strange - the jobs around us - that we don't even know exist!)

I decided then and there that I would love to be part of the painting team spending nights painting lines and logos on the field, preparing for the big game. (Or would I find it too disheartening to see all my hard work washed off a few days later, when everything is redone for a different sporting event?!)

To Terry's delight, he was able to actually watch a game... from the comfort of the hotel bedroom!

It was truly unforgettable!
