Reford Gardens Museum

When we visited the Reford Gardens (Les Jardins de Metis) in Quebec's Gaspe region, we also saw the home - in the middle of the gardens - once used by the Reford family as a fishing lodge (Estevan Lodge).

The large veranda of this elegant lodge (like the Boldt Castle summer home in the Thousand Islands that we toured last summer) suggest that the wealthy entertained on a lavish scale a hundred years ago!

We didn't have time to stay for the musical tea - but peeked in at the tables set in readiness.

Next time we'll plan for a longer stay!

We did, however, wander upstairs, where the rooms have been turned into a family museum.

There we saw some of the relics of life as it was a hundred years ago, like this hand-embroidered violin pad...

... and we caught a glimpse of the woman responsible for creating the Reford Gardens, pictured here in her earlier years, together with her two young sons.

I couldn't help but photograph this old truck parked outside the house...

It reminds me of one in our family photo album!
