Reford Gardens in Early September

In early September, we visited the Reford Gardens (also known as Les Jardins de Metis) - an 8-hour drive from Ottawa, in Metis, Quebec.

The garden is really 18 "gardens" with paths leading from one to another.

Begun in 1926, it took more than 30 years to complete...

There are more than 3,000 plant species...

... and at least one stream running through the grounds.

It was interesting to see the flowers still in bloom...

There were many...

... both annuals...

...and perennials...

... including lilies in a variety of colors...

...and roses, which bloom all summer long.

I'm not sure what this plant is... a Bonsai tree, perhaps.

It takes about 2 hours to see the gardens. As we wandered around (with guests from Germany), I couldn't help but wish I could visit again in late June or July, when the garden is at its peak.
