Changing Times

We moved to our current house when our daughter was a year old. Later on, we brought two more newborns home... We've lived here quite a few years.

When we moved here, an older couple lived across the street. The house had three very large trees in the front yard. Now there are two. The trees  shed a lot in the fall.  I remember Bill (our neighbor) saying he hoped a strong wind would blow the dead leaves down the street so that he wouldn't have to rake them! Some years his hope came true!

Bill and Marion eventually died, and the house was sold. For a few years, it was a rental unit. We had new neighbors every few years.

Now the house has been sold again... The new owners plan to tear it down and build two houses in its place. That's the trend in our neighborhood these days...

A sign out front says that the new owners are seeking a variance: The houses they want to build will have less green space around them than city bylaws deem suitable.

The city of Ottawa encourages "infill" - so the new owners will probably be approved. Things will be changing again.
