My friend Janet grows vegetables in garden boxes on the perimeter of her yard.
A few years ago, I thought I'd give it a try.
But the squirrels can still get into the boxes! Any tomato plants I planted in them had bites taken out of the tomatoes...
Why bother?! I concluded...
So I put a few herbs (like chamomile) and flowers in them...
This year, I planted a few pumpkin seeds in one box, too. But only recently, after a few rainy days, did I see any growth...
They're now in bloom!
But I suspect they are too late for the plants to bear pumpkins this late in the season.
