Timeless Granny Squares

There are some lovely granny square afghans on Pinterest...

This one inspired me to use up some of my mother's yarn making granny squares with a white border.

My project isn't done yet, but the traditional design is already striking. No wonder it's been popular for so many years!

This yarn is left over from several afghan kits my mother bought years ago. I was with her when she saw them on sale and decided to get several in the same color.

Here is the afghan she made at the time - long strips of knit cables sewn together.

So much work! Crocheted granny squares are so much easier!
