Local Flooding

It's been a wet spring in eastern Ontario. Melting snow filled rivers, lakes and ditches. Then - before water levels normalized, days of heavy rain followed. Areas near the water began to flood.

Last Monday evening, Terry and I headed towards the river to see the situation first hand.

The Ottawa River was raging!

Bike paths along the river were flooded in many places.

Further to the east, we saw first hand how one street across the river in Gatineau, Quebec had been impacted. The road was clear at one end of the street, but half a block away, water had gone over the street.

From a distance it was hard to see exactly how the houses had been impacted, but hundreds of homeowners on both sides of the river had created sandbag dykes to try to protect their homes and summer cottages.

It was a sad situation for many.
