Older children tend to feel responsible for a lot... and perhaps the burden of this responsibility follows us throughout our lives. Always feeling responsible is a heavy burden to carry around! So it was freeing for me to read the following:
"The kingdom [of God] does not stand or fall on our own poor efforts... We are... members of the body of Christ, in whom the sanctification of the universe has already begun... we respond to God's majesty and might not with servile fear or moralistic striving but with 'a deep and disciplined joy.' "
