Two-Pigment Painting

In our most recent water-color class, the instructor had us paint scenes using only two complementary colors - colors on opposite sides of the color wheel.

I chose red and green since the scene she gave us (below) had grass and trees.

Color mixing is really fascinating! And it's all new to me. Apparently, mixing any complementary colors creates grey and black... But next to each other, complementary colors accentuate each other. And, of course, watering down the water-color paint gives paler hues.

Amazing what can be done using only two pigments!
