Cutting-Back-Vine Season

My gardening chore these hot summer days is cutting back the wild vines that invade our yard.

They climb up on the trees, cling to the hedge and even pop up among the flowers. The main culprits are wild grapes...

 ... and Virginia creeper.

The Virginia creeper adds attractive foliage when it turns red in the fall. But I ruthlessly try to pull the vines down. They would overtake the whole yard if we let them!

With all these vines hanging off the trees, sometimes I feel I live in a jungle that is fighting to take back the land!
