My doctor has informed me that I have "swimmer's ear" - an infection of the ear canal.
But I haven't been swimming in years, I tell her.
She smiles as she writes a prescription for ear drops: You can get it in other ways as well.
I think of the time I had "tennis elbow." I had hurt myself, not playing tennis, but cleaning the house - shaking rugs!
I wonder who gave these ailments such colorful names - names that (at least!) make me feel athletic.
