Sad Day

A few days ago, the "matriarch" of my extended family passed away.

The wife of my mother's older brother was 96 years old when she died.

I have so many good memories of her and her family...

Five years ago she and her daughter came to Ottawa to visit my mother. Here they are, at a local restaurant.

I'm so glad I was able to celebrate her 95th birthday with her in Edmonton last year.

Here she is at that time - together with her son David and his wife Cathy.

She looked so strong then that I thought she had a good chance of being with us for years!

She was like a second mother to me. I'll really miss her. Visits to Edmonton won't be the same with her gone...
