Christmas Farmers Market

Yesterday afternoon was the opening of the Carp Christmas Farmers Market, annually held the first weekend in December.

Terry and I arrived shortly after it opened at 3 pm. It was still daylight... But an hour or so later, by the time we left, it was already dark.

There were a lot of stalls selling crafts and Christmas decorations - but we headed straight to our "pie ladies"... (We each have a favorite.)

Mine sells small British pastries called Eccles cakes. I bought enough for the winter months.

Terry's "pie lady," Kathy, sells apple pies, lemon tarts, quiche and delicious bread!

We don't need large quantities of vegetables any more, so we by-passed the organic vegetable stalls. Terry did go back to get some home-made salsa from his favorite "corn man." I bought several cobs of popping corn on the cob...

Before leaving, we headed over to the food stalls at the back of the market room. Supper was Chinese food for Terry...

A Mexican medley for me...

All in all, a successful outing!

I really miss our Saturday morning drives to the market: The drive into the country, our favorite friendly vendors who actually produce the food they sell.

See you at the Easter market, one said as we picked up our heavy shopping bag.

So he's already looking ahead past the winter snow - which hasn't arrived yet - to Easter.

It's early this year... he added.

Good! I'm willing to think about spring!
