Visiting Hershey, Pennsylvania

Terry and I recently visited Hershey, Pennsylvania for the second time.

The first time, years ago, our family was en route home after a long vacation, so we didn't stay for long.

This time we were able to linger and sightsee a bit more.

After wandering around the Hershey visitors' center...

... (and enjoying a few treats)...

... we took the trolley tour that showed us homes where Milton Hershey and his family had lived...

It's hard to believe that he had failed miserably in the candy business before starting to make chocolates.

He started out making caramels - and had no success until a British company purchased them and covered them with chocolate.

Then he began to make chocolates himself - and success followed! But his real legacy is his contribution to the community, creating theaters and clubs for workers, and homes and schools for orphans.

Later on we visited the Giant Center - a large hockey arena in winter - for a Joyce Meyer conference. It was all very interesting!
