My older son shares a house with two large but gentle cats...
A few days ago, after work, he had supper with friends at a Korean barbecue restaurant - where every table is equipped with a grill for cooking the meat.
They were there for several hours.
When he arrived home, he immediately fell asleep on the sofa in the living room. When he woke up, he couldn't find his glasses.
Later on, he called us: I've hunted everywhere for them, but they're nowhere to be found! I don't know what to do. I know I was wearing them when I came home, so they have to be here!
Do you want Dad to come over? I asked.
I should probably explain that Terry is the master of finding things! Whenever one of us drops something and can't find it - whether it's a tiny screw, that rolled off the table or a contact lens that accidentally fell on the floor - he gets down on his hands and knees, with his flashlight, and inevitably finds it.
No, but I'm so frustrated, he replied.
You probably can't see all that well without your glasses. Dad will be right over.
Terry and I drove over - with his flashlight! He pulled the cushions off the sofa, moved it, shone his light under nearby furniture - nothing!
Finally Terry began to flash the light under furniture in different parts of the room.
Wait a minute! What's that under that shelf in the dining room?
The missing glasses! The lenses were all smudged... And there were cat teeth marks in the plastic!
Did one of the cats see the glasses as a new toy? Or as food... with a lingering aroma of barbecued meat? Had every residue of barbecue - been licked off the lenses?
Could be!
Now, which one of the two is the culprit?!
