Enjoying the Falls

We were recently in Niagara Falls for a concert (The "final encore" tour of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.)

Before heading home, Terry and I walked from our hotel down the embankment - seen in the background of the photo above... down to see the falls.

We hadn't been in a few years. It's always an impressive sight. The ones, near the bridge, located on the American side of the border...

And the rounded falls found on the Canadian side.

Boatloads of tourists go close to both falls - and get wet from the spray. We took the boat tour once when our children were young. Another time, I remember going into the tunnel behind the falls.

But not this time! After enjoying coffee and muffins in the visitors' centre, we walked back up the embarkment - to our hotel.

The falls are a true wonder of nature! It was nice to be back.

Niagara Falls

Last weekend, Terry and I headed to Niagara Falls - to hear Frankie Valli sing in person at the OLG Stage.

A teenage heartthrob in the 1950's, he is now 90 years old - but he still sings! I guess one could say that the stage has been his home for over 70 years.

This is the view from where we sat - and there's Frankie in person on stage (on the left). And - larger than life - on the monitors on either side of the stage.

The auditorium was packed. 

Most of us who had come to see and hear him were grey-haired. A man sitting near Terry commented that he had seen the singer perform  50 years ago.

It was an evening to remember - a Christmas gift from one of our kids.

More Peace Lilies

Last summer I divided a root-bound lily plant that hadn't bloomed for many years. I hoped that the repotting would be a new beginning.

It has taken a while - but I'm excited to see that two of the plants are now getting ready to bloom.

And one that had a single flower several months ago...

... now has two budding flowers!

Friendly Chipmunk

This little chipmunk - who lives in the tree next to our front shed - seems to be getting friendlier...

In the past, he (or she?) would keep a distance... In fact, we rarely saw him (or is it her?!)

But a few days ago, I noticed him (her?) running back and forth under our car.

Then today, he (she?) sat nonchalantly as I approached the carport.

I hope that he (or she) hasn't started using our car engine as storage for nuts and seeds - as I've seen squirrels do!

Next thing we may find him (or her) inside the car!

Square Knitting Needles

I recently heard that some knitters find square (rather than round) knitting needles to be more ergonomically comfortable... AND that a factory that makes square needles can be found in Brockville - about an hour's drive away...

So one recent sunny day, Terry and I - together with our daughter - drove to Brockville for an adventure.

We found the factory store - had a great chat with the people who man the shop - and came home with a knitting kit for my daughter, two sets of knitting needles for me - PLUS a crochet hook with a square wooden handle.

I'm looking forward to trying them all out to see if they ease my wrist pain.

Seniors Walking

Our daughter offered to take a picture of Terry and me under this sign about SENIORS WALKING...

So we obliged!

Walking is still my favourite exercise... Like my mother before me, I aim for 10,000 steps a day!

Growing Independence

If you don't know where the restaurant is, Grandma, I'll show you, our eight-year-old granddaughter says - and quickly moves ahead to lead the way.

Grandma follows obediently, happy that the child is confident and strong - yet a little sad that this stage of independence has arrived so quickly.
